Healthy Meat Pie!

Well the title really should say healthier meat pie. It may be impossible to make a healthy meat pie.

whole wheat ground turkey meat pie


Substitutions:
Whole wheat flour instead of bleached white flour
99% lean ground turkey instead of ground beef
Canola oil instead of butter

Why its healthier:
1. Whole wheat flour is lower in calories and has more fiber, protein, and vitamins and minerals than its white counter part. A high fiber diet has been shown to help lower cholesterol levels in the blood.
2.Lean ground beef is 99% fat free with nearly 100 less calories than the same serving of ground beef.
3. Canola is low in saturated fat and higher in unsaturated fat; poly and particularly monounsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fat has been show to decreases LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) in the body.

Whats to be learned from this post? Well, assumingly unhealthy foods, can be made healthier by adjusting recipes slightly and choosing healthier options when choosing ingredients. And as with this meat pie, the same great flavour is preserved.

  3. This is so simple, but it looks so yummy! Even if it's not perfectly healthy, i's gotta at least be better than any sort of frozen pot pie you'd get at the store, and I'm certain it tastes like 100 times better too.
