HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training which is a form of cardiovascular training combining short burst of intense exercise followed by a rest period repeated as intervals. For HIIT to be most effective, during the periods of exercise, individuals need to give near maximal effort. So motivation is key when doing HIIT workouts. Workout in an environment that will push you to to give your all. In my opinion music always helps as well as a good coach or trainer if you have one. HIIT workouts are easy to put together, as they can be done anywhere including your home with just your body weight. HIIT workouts are made to be quick since your are pushing your body hard during the exercise interval. You can burn as many calories with an intense 20 minute HIIT workout that you do jogging slowly for 40 minutes. Ideally a HIIT workout should range from anywhere from 10-30 minutes. If you are able to continue intervals past this amount of time, then you are not pushing hard enough.

This workout is a 10 minute HIIT circuit that includes 30 seconds of a bodyweight exercise followed by 30 seconds of active rest. For the active rest you can dance, jog, or walk in place. The goal is to keep moving the entire 10 minutes!

  • Dance 30 seconds (active rest)
  • 2. 30 seconds: side to side punch
  • Dance 30 seconds (active rest)
  • 3. 30 seconds: squats
